A LETTER FROM BRO. GEOFF GRIGG - ENGLAND

(Bro. Grigg made a personal donation to Germania after Katrina and has kept in tough with us since the storm.)

Joe,
Good morning to you,
Just received and read your May news letter and visited your web page. It must feel great having a Lodge with on average 100 members, in my Lodge, St Andrew I think we have 40 tops.

The problem over here is that we shot ourselves in the foot many years ago, long before I became a Freemason in 1970. Freemasonry got a bad reputation of secret dealings behind closed doors, you name it and we were accused of it.
We tend to think it was started maliciously, but the damage was done, and instead of standing up and being counted and saying prove it they just kept quiet as nothing has happened. Also our for fathers didn't believe in Publicity for all the good work and charity work we do, Last year we collected enough through cash donations to give to the St John Ambulance Brigade 4 Fully Fitted out Ambulances. Not one media coverage, nothing in the local press, plenty in the Masonic newsletter.
We are not so outward over here, shame really. I think a lot more would join us if we were more outward like you over there, there is no youth movement attached to lodges over here either. I will stop moaning .

Anyhow Joe, glad to read Germania 46 is getting back on its feet at long last, busy with candidates and all your social events,
Please pass on my fraternal greetings to the Worshipful Master, Officers and Brethren the next time you hold lodge.
Sincerely and Fraternally
Geoff Grigg, The St Andrew Lodge No 4276 -England

Message from the East

My Brothers, I hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and prosperity. As many of you know we just finished with our annual crawfish boil which was a great success thanks to all the brothers involved. Thanks need to go out to Bro. Robert Rapp and his friend Bro. Dave for getting up early, getting the crawfish and boiling them all that day. Thanks also goes out to Bro. Joe Kueck, Bro. Mike Poissenot and Bro. John Day for helping put up the tents so those who sat outside did not have to sit in the sun. Bro. Joe Kueck and Bro. Vince Vance also helped out by being part of my calling group so that we were able to touch base with all our local members who would be able to come to the boil to let them know it was going on. A BIG thank you goes out to the Rainbow Girls Metairie Assembly #70 for their hard work in helping serve people, you did a wonderful job. I would also like to thank everyone who brought deserts, they were the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Last but not least I would like to thank EVERYONE who was able to attend the boil. Without you it would have been a really boring time.
Now, We have a lot of work over the next few month but I just want to speak on what is going on and how you can become involved. Wednesday night 6/4 will be a practice for a MM Degree to bring up a F.C. on 6/11. If you are interested in being part of this degree please show up at the lodge at 7pm for the practice. Then the next meeting on 6/25 we will need help with a F.C. degree to pass several of our E.A. Brothers. A practice will be announced via E-mail as soon as it is scheduled. Then in July we have our annual joint meeting with Indivisible Friends. The first meeting is over at their lodge and the second will be at our lodge with a MM Degree. Also don’t forget about our district meeting at Germania Lodge on 6/23. Until next time may the Grand Architect of the Universe place peace and harmony to rule over your days and nights.

A LETTER FROM BROTHER WILL WOLDENBURG

It's always hard to leave home. But it's especially hard when home never leaves you.
On Sunday April 20th, I finished putting the last box, picture frame, and blanket into my beat-up Chevy truck and set out on the 1600 mile drive away from home. To an apartment I'd never seen. With a roommate whom I'd never met. To a job, that I hadn’t any familiarity with.
I'm currently the Season Ticket Account Executive for the Albany River Rats (the AHL minor league affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes) and of the Albany Conquest (of the AF2, the Arena Football affiliate for smaller markets). It's a job that requires total sacrifice; of hours (in my first week, I worked more than 75 hours), of pride (this is, after all, the minor leagues where even the local papers feature more front page articles on the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Giants, et al than they do our local teams), and of money (I passed up a job with the Cleveland Cavaliers to come out here).
But despite all of these negatives, I've never been happier. Sales have gone through the roof since I've arrived and because of low expectations (the previous Season Ticket guy was terrible), I've moved nearly $10,000 in tickets in two weeks, which is practically unheard of in this office.
So what do I do all day? Call, Call, Call. Usually, I average about 80-85 phone calls a day. Add in sending out mailers to ticket purchasers, e-mails to interested fans, and sales meetings and you're looking at 10-11 hour days, 6 days a week.
The only thing that still aches is the fact that home is everywhere around me but I'm not there. Inside of my room are three posters; one of Chris Paul, one of the entire 2007-08 Hornets basketball, and another of New Orleans from above. The Hornets are on TV all over the place around here and everyone wants to talk about New Orleans when I mention that I just moved from there.
Needless to say, I hope to come back. I hope to find a job with the Hornets or the Saints down the road. I hope that I get to travel to the East in the only lodge I've known (I have yet to go to meetings at Mount Vernon here in Albany, but will soon). And more than anything, I hope to go home.

Fraternally yours, Will Woldenberg

PROUD OF TWO BROTHERS

We congratulate and take pride in two of our brothers who have just been commissioned in the military. Bro. John Day, our Junior Warden, was commissioned in the army as a 2nd lieutenant on May 16th at the D-Day museum. Bro. Day has already served in Afghanistan in Special Forces. Bro. Aaron Ronskley was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy on May 17 at Tulane. The June 11 meeting will be his last for a long while as he is getting stationed in Hawaii (lucky guy). Both are Tulane students and both have been very active in Masonry and Germania. Bro. Ronskley said he doesn’t know where he will ultimately end up but will do his two years in Hawaii and then see what the situation is
