Nameplates on reconditioned lodge chairs
Brethren,
I am offering, for a limited time, an opportunity to assist the Lodge AND obtain a permanent reminder of your membership in Germania BEFORE we die!
In the past, chair nameplates were purchased as a memorial for deceased Germania brothers.
If you would like to have an engraved brass nameplate with your name, to be permanently fastened to a lodge chair, you can now purchase one for $100.
We have a limited number of chairs with no nameplates. Once all chairs have nameplates, there will be no more available.
This should be a quick way to raise much need funds for our Lodge.
If you would like a nameplate, give Joe Kueck the $100 and let him know what you want engraved on your nameplate. It will be installed by WB Melvin Mims with the new style rivets.
Of course, if you want a memorial plate for a deceased brother, you can also purchase one for $100, which is the new price for future nameplates.
Fraternally, Glenn
BY-LAW CHANGE APPROVED
The by-law change adopted and held over was voted upon unanimously to hold our election of officers the first meeting in November instead of December. That is only four meetings away, how fast time does fly! November 11 will be the election for the 2010 officers. As always it is the most important meeting of any year as we elect our leaders. We are 113 strong and still, almost every meeting, receiving petitions for degrees and plural membership. Do not miss the election
AN EMAIL FROM Bro JOE ASHLAR (RYBCZYK)
Hello, Bro Joe! Sorry it has been a while. I have been travelling all summer with a few different bands, and am currently on the Gulf Coast in FL with a band.
My condolences for Bro. Ravain. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the service. Please relay my respects to the family and brethren. I look forward to returning to lodge once I get some more time in NOLA. I will be heading to Haugesund, Norway next week for a jazz festival and Johannesburg South Africa for the week after that. I hope to make it for at least one of the meetings in Sept. Although my tour schedule isn't final yet! How is everything with you my brother? The lodge? I hope summer has been good to everyone.
Please feel free to share this communication with the lodge if anyone
wants to hear what I've been up to.
S+F Bro. Joe
Here is a brand new verse about our home town written by none other than our own Bro. Vince Vance.
I Am New Orleans – copyright 2009 Vince Vance
I’m American, a European immigrant, an African dance
I’m Pete Fountain, Satchmo, Irma, ‘Fess and Vince Vance
I’m the roux in your gumbo; I’m the rice in your beans
I’m a levee that will never break; I am New Orleans.
My blood is the River, my heart is the Quarter;
I’m a corrupt politician; a slave that was martyred
A girl who lost her way and a Bourbon Street Queen
I’m a parade on St. Charles; I am New Orleans.
I’m praying in the Cathedral; I’m living in sin
I never sleep from the bustle or the fear I live in
I smell like French Bread; my snowball’s nectar cream
I’m the city that care forgot; I am New Orleans.
I’m stronger from lies; I’m bigger than The Dome
I’m the Saints; I’m the sinners; I am a place called Home
I’m sweating in December; I’m purple, gold and green
I’m Catholic and I’m voodoo; I am New Orleans.
I’m Blaine Kern, LaMarque, Fats and the Rock n’ Bowl
I’m Marsalis, Neville, Toussaint and Dr. John’s soul
I’m Mardi Gras Indians, I’m jazz and glitter jeans
I’m the Deutsches Haus & Germania; I am New Orleans.
I was sold by the French and saved by Ole Hickory
I’m eight feet below sea level and slipping out to sea
I’m a Mason looking East and a Shriner who dreams
Katrina changed me forever, but I am still New Orleans.
Brother Vince Vance, M. M. ( Germania #46 F. & A. M.)

GERMANFEST REPORT
Without volunteers and donations there is no way we could make a dime at our biggest fundraiser – GERMANFEST. We are currently looking for prizes for a silent auction. We have incredible door prizes already covered by Brothers Eldred Gilmore (30/30 lever action rifle) Jack Zollinger (Saints Tickets) and Brian McGibbon (signed, numbered poster of rocker Jerry Lee Louis) plus Bro. Matt Byers who got it professionally framed. What we need is prizes for the auction. Please consider a new or never used item. Some of our wives have volunteered to head up the auction. MARK YOUR CALLENDER NOW – NOVEMBER 7 @ 6:30 P.M.
Tickets are now available, the cost is $25.00 in advance and $30.00 at the door. Please email or call me and place your order. Even if you can’t attend you can win one of these wonderful door prizes and there are only 400 tickets printed!
A REAL MANLY MAN OF GERMANIA
(I sent Bro. Bill Axtman a video email of very old motorcycles racing on a board walk, this was his reply, I knew he raced motorcyclest once upon a time)
Thanks for the Indian racing film, but the board tracks were a bit before my time. I had read about them though. Can you imagine getting off "at speed' with all those wood splinters up your butt and elsewhere. Some of the old time racers who would hang around the motor cycle shop would jest that they were going to "return to the boards".
I started racing about 1956 on dirt oval tracks and sometimes asphalt paved road racing circuits. At my first race, one guy was riding an Indian Scout. I was riding a Harley WR a guy loaned me. I had never ridden a Harley before, so it was a learning experience.
We also tried to bring back JAP ( JA Pearson) motorcycle racing. The bikes had no brakes, skinny tires, burned fuel and utilized a rolling start. It was full throttle and sliding all the way around the track. The tracks were about 1/8 th mile around. One night in Sacramento on a moonless night just as I was getting the checkered flag all the stadium lights went out. It was pitch black and I was starting into the number one corner. Don't you know, I had both legs digging in the ground to slow down and trying to anticipate where the track was. My rear-end was puckered and cutting neatly formed leather washers out of the motorcycle racing saddle. At first, I got slowed down then inched my way toward the crash wall, listening for exhaust sounds bouncing off the crash wall ahead of me. I followed the crash wall to the pit turn off where the mechanics had flashlights.
Enough war stories. Bro. Bill Axtman
